Star Wars Detours is an upcoming, lampoon-style, animated Star Wars series. The show will provide a humorous spin on Star Wars, showing an insight in to the private lives of the characters of the franchise.

The animation type

In June 2009, Star Wars Detours was revealed by George Lucas to be in the works. On April 5, 2010 it was officially revealed on that the series is in production by Lucasfilm Animation and that it would be a comedy. During the Brand Licensing convention in London in October 2011, Howard Roffman, the head of Lucas Licensing, announced that the animated series was due to be released "within the next two years."[1] In the Launch Pad section of Star Wars Insider 132, released in March 2012, producer Rick McCallum discussed the show, saying "That's coming along great."


At Celebration V, it was announced that writers from various shows including The Simpsons, Family Guy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, SpongeBob Squarepants, and Brendan Hay of The Daily Show have been hired for the project. Seth Green and Matthew Senreich of Robot Chicken are creatively involved as writers and performers. Jennifer Hill of The Backyardigans has been signed to produce, and Todd Grimes of Back at the Barnyard to direct. The series is aimed at all ages and will feature a comedic look at the Star Wars universe.
